Mulberry Bowl 2008

Philosophy

The "suburban lifestyle" has been much decried in environmental circles. However, were many see waste, we see potential. The potential of the land currently lying fallow under acres of lawn waiting to be harnessed. And while gardening and farming are entirely worthwhile uses of these otherwise underused acres, we feel that they can provide more than just food. Consider the potential of suburban forestry. Especially in older suburban neighboorhoods that have acres of mature hardwood trees that are frequently pruned, felled by storms, or cut down at the whim of their owners. That is why we craft our functional and decorative products from these local trees. Trees that would otherwise be destined for firewood stacks or chippers. After people see and feel what can be made from the resources in their own backyard it gives them a greater appreaciation for the value of the timber growing outside their door.
